Container ships lining up at ports isn’t just an issue stymying chipmakers and automobile assembly plants. It’s an issue hitting home for small businesses – including a manufacturer in Garner.
Garner-based Improved Nature was on a roll. The company, which develops and manufactures a plant-based protein that founder Rody Hawkins said mirrors the “texture” of meat, was growing. The business became cash flow positive. It doubled in size and was looking to do more of the same in 2021, with plans to build a new facility in 2022.
But then the supply chain disruption impacting the global economy hit home, and the company's plans started to change.
